Different Perspective: Culture

I took these pictures of the pier at Old Orchard Beach. The beach is an aspect of Maine culture. I added a bit of contrast and subtracted a bit of saturation to give a relaxed mood. The third picture down is my favorite because it is of the whole pier, and I like the deep depth of field. The last one would be my favorite if it did not have the people walking in it.

Different Perspective: Abstract

I took these pictures outside my house. I like the shape and texture of this light and I thought it would make a good abstract photograph. I sharpened the image a bit and added some contrast to the dull lighting. I like the compositions and the light saturation.

Mobility: Different Perspectives

I took these pictures at the town garage. I liked the scenic background and the shapes the trucks had so I chose to take some photographs for mobility/transportation. The last two are my favorites because they show the ground below the trucks with tire marks which I thought emphasized the theme. Also the composition is good in the pictures and the shine from the truck add reflections and glares.

Montage: Urban Landscape

Different Perspective: Aged

I took these pictures at the town garage. I saw good angles created by the cylinders and diagonally placed wood. This image shows a lot of shapes and dimentions. I added a bit of sharpness and contrast to make the shapes stand out.

Water Reflection

This was taken in Portland. I like the reflection of the trees on the water and the composition of the image. I added some saturation and sharpness to enhance the image.

Abstract

This is a picture of shattered glass on pavement. I took it on my phone so it does not have as good quality as it could of, but I like how the light hits the glass. I added a bit of contrast and some blue hue to the image to make it standout.

News Story

I took this image on the way home from a soccer tournament. Its the New Hampshire Gold State Bridge. There was an accident about a mile beyond it and the cars were backed up. (I also got some pictures of the accident but they came out bad because the car was moving fast as I was trying to take a picture resulting in blurred images) I added some contrast and sharpness to enhance the bridge's features.

Death/Decay

This is a photo of a flower pot at my house. I choose to capture this image because below the pot were dead petals collected on the table. The composition is interesting, I like the flower in the front right side out of focus, and the pot containing the flower in the background. I used iPhoto to make it black and white, and also added a bit of contrast and lowered the saturation to give an aged and decaying feel. I like the windows effect on the image, it adds some shadows and interesting contrasts.

Urban Landscape

I took this picture while I was in Portland. I like the composition because there are no objects in the center. The fence adds light to the photo and emphasizes the urban theme. The dumpster with the cardboard coming out adds dimension while the sign adds interesting angles.

Animals

This is a picture of two dogs at a soccer game. I was walking and thought this was a good composition for a photo. I like the high contrast between the dogs and the grass. This explores many values of the black and white color scale, one dog is very black, one is white, and the grass is very gray. In iPhoto I added a bit of contrast and some sharpness to the image.

Records

This is a photo of records I found at my house. I set this still-life up and chose to photograph it because I really liked the composition and use of diagonal lines. I used iPhoto to make it black and white, but I found color added an interesting effect to the picture and I like it better. I also added some contrast so the designs on the covers of the records would stand out.

Step By Step

This is a picture of Berkinstocks placed in a door entry. I chose to take a still-life photograph rather than in motion for this perticular assignment. I like how the water on the ground creates a reflection of the shoes and brick wall. In iPhoto I added some contrast so the Berkinstocks would have some shadows, and adjusted the saturation so the colors would be bolder. The idea of this photo is to show "feet" entering outdoors.
